- Co-ordinates closely with the Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Surveyors, Foreman, Skilled & Unskilled Labourers & Subcontractors
- Ensures the works are delivered safely, to a high quality, within cost and on time.
- Directs the construction resources (La’ala personnel, plant and equipment and/or subcontractors) in the execution of their day to day duties.
- Communicates to the Construction Manager any risks to programme and any possible mitigating actions that could be undertaken.
- Communicates to the Construction Manager the 1/2 week look ahead for resource requirements (plant, labour and materials).
- Coordinate the execution of the works with the other services works in the vicinity.
- Has a full working knowledge of the quality and safety systems in place (Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s), Method Statements, Non- conformance reports, etc.) and ensure that these are adhered to.
- Correctly completes and submits all quality control documentation in a timely manner.
- Ensures timesheets & material requests & delivery dockets are correctly cost coded.
- Ensure that productivity targets and allowable wastage limits are understood, monitored and reported. Identifies areas for improvement where possible.
- Raise material requests for miscellaneous on-going consumable materials.
- Suggest site modifications to the design as appropriate.
- Inspects condition of, and sign receipt for, materials delivered to the site.
- Identifies safety concerns and make recommendations for improvements.
- Develops Method Statements for review and approval prior to executing new works.
- Ensures Permits to Dig, Permits to Enter, etc. are correctly identified and signed off prior to works commencing.
- Ensures site personnel are suitably experienced before executing a task.
- Oversees the performance and development of junior engineers, foremen, etc.
- Provides feedback to the Construction Manager on staff performance.
- “Sign-off” the Quality “Hold Points” where identified in the Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s) (or clearly allocates to the Site Engineer).
- Partakes in, and occasionally leads, the weekly safety toolbox meetings.
- Delivers and/or oversees the Method Statement briefings.
- Submits productivity and wastage reports.
- Support the Construction Manager in ensuring the works are delivered safely, to a high quality, within cost and on time.
- Possess a full understanding of the works to be executed (specifications, standard details, Contract Agreements, etc.), with regard to both the specific discipline as well as alignment and coordination with other services.
- Execution of the Quality Management Plan through:
- Having a full working knowledge of the quality and safety systems in place (Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s), Method Statements, Non- conformance reports, etc.)
- Assisting the development and refinement (where necessary) of the quality control processes for the construction works.
- Receiving the site generated QA documentation to review for completeness and compliance with the requirements. (Ensuring that all quality records are maintained in good order and that they can be easily incorporated, in a traceable manner, into the final Project Quality Records).
- With the assistance of the Drawing and Design Department, oversee the development of shop drawings from the Consultant’s design drawings. In this regard, the Engineer is expected to:
- understand the priority requirements for deliverables with regards to site progress, off-site manufacturing time, etc.
- ensure that the shop drawing development is coordinated with all other services.
- Review the shop drawings for correctness (NB: incl. externally generated shop drawings).
- Reviewing the As-built drawings for correctness.
- Developing (with the Construction Manager and the Senior Site Engineer), Method Statements to ensure the works are well planned for safe and efficient execution (or alternatively reviewing subcontractors).
- Carry out periodic quality inspections at suppliers facilities as necessary, to ensure their QA procedures are sufficient and that they are being complied with.
- Receive and summarise the progress and productivity monitoring being executed in the field.
- Track the material delivery status against the scheduled delivery requirements and taking timely action if deliveries are slipping.
