1 Schedules patients for laboratory tests and consultations.
2 Relays information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests.
3 Coordinates visits either within the department or between several departments.
4 Telephones and interviews patients and/or family members to obtain accurate preregistration
information and to confirm appointments.
5 Prints and mails directions, maps, fee schedules, and department specific information to
patients. Contacts Medical/Nursing staff and patients to obtain any missing information
required for laboratory investigations.
6 Verifies and enters pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system
and prepares daily printed schedules for designated areas.
7 Obtains and/or verifies patient's demographic data by phone or in person.
8 Assists patients or family members with the completion of medical insurance forms.
9 Informs patients of costs of tests being provided, and guides them to appropriate
resources for further information, guidance or assistance.
10 Answers telephones and provides routine information to callers.
11 Knows the informal policies, procedures and practices necessary to conduct the normal
function of a specific section, unit or work area. Is aware of the role of the position and
its potential impact on the working unit.
12 Carries out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision. Makes decisions and
establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations.
13 Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring
good oral and written communication skills.
14 Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers form biohazardous
materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
15 Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially
hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace.
