IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Head of Department
DEPARTMENT: Civil Engineering
FUNCTION: Responsible to the Head of Department for preparation, teaching, assessment and coordination of student learning, as required.
PRIMARY TASKS:
1. Teach a course load appropriate to their discipline.
2. Plan and organize classes in ways that maximize Student learning.
3. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matters to students.
4. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
5. Employ available instructional technology (internet, tele-course) when appropriate.
6. Encourage the development of communication skills and critical thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
7. Contribute to the selection and development of teaching materials in accordance with course objectives.
8. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote learning.
9. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrators each semester according to established deadlines.
10. Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and department policies.
11. Substitute for other instructors within field or discipline in case of absence.
12. Serve on college, department and program committees as needed.
13. Participate in meetings and events required by the college, department and programs.
14. Participate in graduation ceremonies
15. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or team.
16. Comply with ACK policies and procedures.
17. Other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY: To ensure that teaching and associated duties are carried out to a satisfactory standard.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Undertake tasks under general direction and supervision, based on established practices and procedures, provided by the Head of Department.
