Job Summary:
1. Under general supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the administrative team, the Medical Director develops, implements, and evaluates the medical practice delivery model in accordance with the goals of the organization
2. The Medical Director shares in the administrative functions that directly impact medical services and collaborates with the management team in overall planning and budget activities.
3. The Medical Director assures delivery of quality services to all patients.
4. In the absence of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operations Officer, this position assumes all non-provider leadership responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leadership:
a. Demonstrates the ability to make decisions takes appropriate action and follows tasks though completion.
b. Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical providers Performs clinical supervision of medical staff, including regular performance appraisals and feedback to staff.
c. Provides supervision of clinical scheduling, call and leave for medical staff Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training and orientation of new medical staff.
d. Ensures integration of medical services into AIH’s overall comprehensive services.
e. Participates, in conjunction with the management team, in the overall budget planning and monitoring process; reviews the formulation and evaluation of project goals and budgets.
f. Advises on purchase of medical equipment.
g. Leads planning for the development of new clinical programs
h. Reviews clinical and patient care services provided by AIH.
i. Performs or delegates responsibility for quarterly medical record reviews for all medical staff focusing on quality of care and appropriate coding.
j. Provides counsel in personnel matters relating to the clinical staff.
k. Development of standards and qualifications for medical personnel.
l. Assists staff with treatment modalities pertinent to AIH patient populations.
m. Assists in promoting a medical staff environment in which the medical staff providers retain independent judgment and responsibility in the practice of medicine, subject to peer review.
n. Demonstrates an understanding of AIH’s mission in performing all aspectsof the position.
o. Demonstrates a caring and helpful attitude when interacting with patients, vendors and fellow employees.
p. Recognizes and analyzes the implications of new situations and develop workable situations to maintain productivity and morale.
q. Strives to build cooperative partnerships with internal and external customers.
r. Assists in promoting a medical staff environment in which the medical providers retain independent judgment and responsibility in the practice of medicine, subject to peer review by.
s. Advises on schedules of fees (and related discounts for services to patients, as appropriate) to be charged for professional services rendered by AIH medical providers.
2. Policy and Service.
a. Conducts short/long range planning of the Hospital medical manpower plan in accordance with Hospital objectives/goals and develops a strategic plan including hiring, educating and developing medical staff.
b. Approval of medical practice procedures and policies.
c. Ensures the confidentiality of personnel records.
d. Assist in the review of standard operating procedures where deficiencies are noted.
e. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all the State of Kuwait and Ministry of Health laws, local and international accreditation regulations..
f. Ensure that safe working practices are maintained according to policies and procedures.
g. Responsible for the credentialing and privileging of the medical staff, serves as the chair of the Credentialing Committee..
h. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
i. Performs periodic review of practice management function.
j. Oversee and maintain performance improvement processes for AIH as established by the hospital, ACI, Kuwait MOH, and any other entities.
k. Reviews results of patient satisfaction surveys.
l. Reviews patient complaints.
m. Provides an environment in which the medical providers follow and abide by the ethics of the medical profession, all applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, and any and all other policies adopted by AIH.
n. Handles confidential information as defined in AIH’s policies
3. Communication:
a. Facilitates medical staff/provider meetings.
b. Reviews input from medical staff on their ideas and concerns with the Chief Executive Officer.
c. Serves as a liaison between medical staff and administration.
d. Keeps abreast of MOH regulations and advises management team on necessary changes.
e. Provides clinical guidance and regularly reports on clinical activities at the Executive Committee meetings.
f. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
g. Conducts departmental staff meetings on a monthly basis or more frequently if needed and maintains minutes of all meetings.
h. Gives timely and constructive feedback on performance; documents all corrective counseling.
i. Ensures that adequate continuous education is available to medical staff members.
j. Represents AIH at local medical societies, hospitals, professional organizations, groups and agencies.
k. Attends administrative meetings as appropriate and contributes ideas for improving efficiency, productivity and patient satisfaction
