BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE:
As a Systems and Network Administrator the role will require to carry out effective provisioning, installation, configuration and maintenance/support of IT systems hardware software and infrastructure whilst ensuring data security at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems
- Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
- Installing and configuring new hardware and software
- Answering technical queries and assisting users
- Responsibility for security
- Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system
- Troubleshooting any reported problems
- System performance tuning
- Ensuring that the network infrastructure is up and running
- Configuring, adding, and deleting file systems
- Ensuring parity between dev, test and production environments
- Reviews system software updates and tailors system software to maximize hardware functionality. Installs and tests new versions of system software. Prepares and maintains operational documentation for system software
- Reviews releases, upgrades and fixes available from system software suppliers
- Prepares software implementation procedures with fall back contingency plans
- Investigates potential and actual service problems and recommends solutions. Follows formal procedures to plan and test proposed solutions
- In the event of system software failure, collects critical information, adhering to agreed procedures
- Collects performance data to monitor system efficiency against published service level agreements
- Gathers performance statistics from the IT platforms to enable recommendations for the tuning of system software. Tailors system software parameters to maximize throughput and efficiency
- Audits service delivery functions to ensure understanding and adherence to documented procedures
- Uses network management systems software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect routine network load statistics, model performance, and create reports, including proposals for improvement
- Analyses site survey reports and contributes to specifications of requirements and plans for installation and commissioning of hardware and software
- Uses network management systems software to create ad-hoc network models and complex network statistical analyses
- Investigates and diagnoses complex network problems, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate. Resolves such problems, co-operating with the capacity
management function, to maintain overall network performance - Contributes to selection of standard procedures and tools, and carries out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation, control and maintenance of local and wide area networks for communication of data, voice, text or images
- Identifying and solving any problems that arise with computer networks and system
- Hands on experience in networking, routing and switching
- Maintaining, repairing and upgrading network and computer systems
- Troubleshoot network bandwidth issues
- Diagnosing and fixing problems or potential problems with the network and its hardware, software and systems
- Monitoring network and systems to improve performance
- Ensure network security and connectivity
