Under the general direction of the Technical Services Manager, the Audio/Visual Technician will participate in all facets of Audio/Visual maintenance, including video and sound installation, and will work as part of the overall exhibition team to construct, install/de-install, maintain, and repair a broad variety of Museum exhibits that feature interactive and/or Audio/Visual components including the Planetarium and performance theater.
Constructs, maintains, and repairs audio/visual and interactive exhibits (AVI) focusing on a wide range of subject matter, their environs, and special projects utilizing a wide range of materials, equipment, and technologies.
Organizes and maintains AVI components for all museum departments.
Maintains and upgrades AVI, troubleshoots, repairs, and/or coordinates repair of AVI, and makes recommendations for equipment purchase, system design, and facility utilization.
Plan and prepare technology for conducting and recording interviews, events, and performances.
Assists other departments in installing and striking both long-term and short-term exhibitions.
De-installs exhibits, removing artifacts, salvaging, and stowing re-usable materials and equipment.
Performs exhibition space maintenance, daily operations, and organization in all areas of the discovery center, including the Thomas Planetarium.
Maintains workshop, shared areas, and storage areas in a clean, well organized manner.
Operates light and heavy equipment, i.e. manual and electronic hand-tools, forklift, and/or scissor-lift.
Follows safety rules, safe work practices, and uses safety equipment as
Documents and manages AVI inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials on an ongoing basis.
Assist with specific other museum events
Assists individuals, groups, and museum partners in the operation of audiovisual equipment
Provides training and instruction to museum staff, and others, working on Audio/Visual projects as part of museum initiatives and partnerships.
Answers inquiries concerning the use of A/V including: microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, monitors, connecting wires and cables, and lighting.
Works with AVI equipment companies as needed.
Work collaboratively with all Museum staff and maintain effective communication regarding the needs, upkeep, and ongoing maintenance of the museums.
Perform other duties as required.
