Job Purpose: To provide general support to the teacher in the management of individual and groups of pupils and the classroom. Under the direct instruction of teaching staff to work with pupils in the classroom to provide physical/general care and assist with their learning.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direct instruction from teaching staff/senior staff:-
• Work alongside teaching staff to ensure pupil safety and welfare within the classroom.
• Promote good pupil behavior, dealing promptly with incidents according to our behavior policy.
• listening to children read, reading to them or telling them stories
• Encourage pupil interaction and engagement with teacher led and child initiated activities.
• Support and supervise pupils in small groups or individually to achieve their learning targets.
• Collaborate with the teaching staff for the planning and evaluation of appropriate learning activities for groups of pupils or individual pupils.
• Act as a role model, showing an awareness of individual pupil needs and respond appropriately to these needs. Promote inclusion.
• Provide regular feedback to individual pupils or groups of pupils on their learning
• Undertake pupil record keeping, gather and report information from ongoing observations and EYFS assessments.
• Prepare and routinely maintain classroom materials/resources/displays. Assist pupils in their use, clear up afterwards and display pupils work.
• Ensure that pupils’ welfare and personal care needs are met.
• Provide general clerical and administrative support to the class teacher.
• Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting any concerns to the appropriate person.
• Establish effective working relationships with pupils and other members of staff within the early year’s team.
• Actively support the school’s equal opportunities policies and ensure that all pupils have an equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
• Contribute to the overall aims and targets of the school, appreciate and support the roles of other members of staff and attend relevant meetings as required.
• Be aware of and take part in the school’s performance management framework and participate in training and development activities as required.
• Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, on the playground during playtime and lunchtimes and accompany school trips and other out of school activities with the teacher as required. Undertake any other similar duties as required.
