- Designing buildings and other structures
- Complying with public safety regulations, local planning regulations and restrictions
- Overseeing building construction
- Having regular meetings to discuss detailed design proposals and establish requirements
- Capturing the design on paper, producing detailed drawings and testing the feasibility of designs with technology such as CAD
- Writing construction documents, detailing instructions for construction experts and contractors
- Finalize plans using CAD applications to varying degrees of detail as required by the project, including design plans, floor plans, electrical layouts, and information needed for building permits
- Develop a project timeline and estimates for project costs
- Obtain client approval for interior design plan and cost estimate
- Place orders for all supplies and materials
- Oversee installation of the design elements
- Visiting the site and negotiating with contractors and resolving any problems that may arise during construction
