DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Highway Engineer performs difficult and complex field engineering assignments related to heavy civil roads and transportation infrastructure projects. The engineer at this level demonstrates expertise in applying engineering theories and general industry practices to resolve difficult problems. Provides leadership and functional guidance to craft and lower-level technical personnel.
Collaborates with field superintendents and construction management for the completion of difficult field engineering assignments involving the development, execution, and coordination of complex construction activities. Provides technical evaluation of work in progress and resolution of constructability issues.
Reviews and interprets design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and feasibility to perform technical execution of work. Provides resolution for difficult and/or complex technical engineering problems across disciplines and coordinates application of solutions.
Ensures that work is coordinated with project staff and Engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.
Advises project management regarding any problem areas, delays in works, scope changes, or other events which could affect project completion.
Initiates and/or reviews change order requests for additions, deletions, or changes to the original scope of work.
Ensures that adequate checking is performed in accordance with discipline checking policy and procedures.
Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Monitors productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel.
