A. Purpose
As a member of the in-country academic project management team, to work collaboratively to ensure the successful development of the programme and the EFL teaching staff to deliver effective teaching and learning. As the holder of this post specifically, to coordinate development and communication of the syllabus.
B. Main duties and responsibilities
1. Staff Management
• To manage the performance of a group of c. 30 EFL teachers; all EFL teachers observed in probationary period and once a semester thereafter. Observed EFL teachers receive oral & written feedback, and a written record is kept.
• All EFL teachers maintain academic record systems as per programme standards, including records of student counselling.
• All EFL teachers follow policies regarding appropriateness of methods and materials, including use of ICT.
• Shortfalls in EFL teacher performance are dealt with according to disciplinary procedures, and HR manager is kept informed and consulted as necessary of any proceedings under these.
• All EFL teachers receive performance appraisals as per guidelines
• Pastoral support is provided to EFL teachers with a view to anticipating problems. EFL teacher concerns regarding visas, accommodation and other practical issues are championed.
• EFL teacher absences are reported to HR Manager
2. Project Coordination
• To take an active role with managers and co-ordinators in the wider academic management team to ensure effective delivery of the project and adoption of policies and practices to achieve targeted results
• To assist in course set-up procedures- placement testing, grouping, orientation, and initial lessons as agreed within academic coordination team
• To keep all managers informed of programme issues to do with syllabus, ICT in the classroom, testing and evaluation. To assist managers with development in these areas, and ensure that EFL teachers are informed of all such developments and of professional development opportunities
• EFL teachers’ rooms are kept as tidy as possible considering busy teaching schedule; materials and stationery are available, stored properly, and waste is avoided
• Students are duly entered onto international exams as appropriate, and receive their exam schedules in due time
• To assist in the preparation of evaluation and other reports by providing requested information.
3. General
• To provide classroom cover in case of EFL teacher absence
• To protect at all times the confidentiality of information, including information held on staff files. To ensure that confidential information is stored securely, and that appropriate access restrictions are in place
• To plan work in advance so as to enable efficient utilisation of the administration assistants.
4. Role Specific
• To coordinate development, review and dissemination of syllabus, including student syllabus documents, so all stakeholders are clear about programme content and goals.
• To assist Academic Admin Manager and Academic Manager (female campus) in ensuring that course content and goals are appropriate to the learning needs of all students and meet client aims.
• To collect quantitative data (eg test results) and qualitative data (teacher & student feedback) from Assessment co-ordinator and Professional Development Co-ordinator and assist Academic Admin manager in identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme achievement.
• To assist Academic Admin Manager on preparation of reports on academic activity.
